Yarn Winding Tips
1. Find the center of the skein, i.e. make sure that no strand crosses back over the three ties, Snap the yarn out, making sure ties lie flat roughly dividing skein into thirds, before you cut. Strands should appear to run parallel, not crossing one another. Place on the skein on a swift or other holder.
2. Cut the two ties without skein ends first, then cut the third tie making sure that one end is on the outside of the skein.
3. If you are using a swift, pull a few yards of yarn off the skein before starting to roll the ball to make sure that it unwinds easily. If it doesn't, find the problem before continuing.
4. If you run into a snag, STOP! Sometimes the problem is a ring of fiber that is caught around two strands. When you locate the ring, simply pull it apart to free the strands. Other times the skein simply needs to be straightened out. DO NOT start to weave the ball of yarn in and out of the skein unless you absolutely have to!!!
5. If you get to the point where you are weaving the ball of yarn in and out of the skein, be sure to leave the skein on the swift or holder. You should be able to get past the problem part and continue to roll the skein. If all else fails, send skein to us.
